Frommer's Las Vegas 2013-- Get this Guide!

Available on Amazon.com, Frommer's guide books have been a staple for years and years.  Yes, I know we are in the digital age, but this is one to get and look at before you go...don't be reading from your ipad or android phone while walking the strip...you will  miss the sights, people watching, and may even then become a victim of a pick-pocket if you aren't paying attention.  This guide has information on tons of free attractions, the best places to eat, and things to do outside of the strip and Old Downtown Vegas (if you feel adventurous!).

Entrance to Bally's Las Vegas

I saw this video on You Tube and couldn't help myself. Either leaving or coming to Bally's, there is a walkway that goes above the strip across the street to Bellagio and Caesar's Palace. From above the strip, you see this entrance to Bally's. At night, its lit up and facinating...perfect on a clear, breazy Las Vegas evening. During the day, its calming and a nice rest with the escalators and walking sidewalks.

Planet Hollywood Deals! Pinks Hot Dogs in Las Vegas-- a must try

Go to Planet Hollywood today-- I saw room rates as low as $48.80/night!!
If you are looking for a true resort, I would recommend trying Planet Hollywood.  Their heavily promoted show, Peepshow, features CoCo from Ice Loves Coco.  Since Planet Hollywood is so close to Bally's (next door to Paris), we have gone there quite often, either to gamble, shop (they have a great mall area with tons of shops, restaurants, and shows), or eat at Pink's Hot Dogs!!

You must try Pink's Hot Dogs if you go to Planet Hollywood.  The casino is brightly lit and has a young vibe and feel to it.  Music is louder than at Bally's and Paris, but it is fun and has lots of shopping options.  I don't do much shopping when in Vegas, unless I am in need of an emergency outfit, or clothing item.

Planet Hollywood is a Total Rewards Casino.  You can use your total rewards card to accumulate points and get discounted rates or even free nights at Planet Hollywood.  I have never stayed in Planet Hollywoods hotel rooms, but the casino and resort is a must visit---and at less than 50 bucks/night, why not try it??

I usually get a chili cheese dog with onions when I go to pinks, but after seeing this video about Louie Anderson and his charity dog, I think I'll try the Louie next time!!

Learning Craps-- before you go!

I have never played Craps in the casinos.  I have always wanted to-- it looks like a party at a table.  I'm not, but if you are a single lady, this could be a great start to your evening, as it looks like there are always lots of MEN at the craps table!
However, while in the hospital, I needed a new hobby to occupy my time.  I found the website, www.wizardofodds.com and fell in love.  This website explains most table games, including odds and strategies.

Wizardofodds.com has an interface where you can play for fun.  I have been learning craps, playing (for fun) online, practicing.
The great thing about practicing online is that you get an idea of how the game works.  For craps, however, I plan to go in the morning to an empty or not crowded table and play for a bit.  Trust me, I will inform the dealers that I am new, and ask them for the proper etiquette.

Another place to go online is You Tube.  Search "craps" on You Tube and find tons of videos, some posted by various casinos that show you how to properly place bets and how to play the game.

I can't wait to try my luck at craps next time I'm in Vegas.  Most casinos do offer learning sessions where they teach you how to play, usually between 9-11 am, when they are least busy.  I've been to New York New York where they have lessons early, and I caught some of the lesson (while we were waiting for a bj table to open up!).  Always ask, the dealers want you to play!

Win a Las Vegas Vacation

Want to go to Las Vegas but looking for funding?
This morning, I checked out www.about.com 's website and searched "las vegas sweepstakes".  You would not believe how many contests and sweeps are available to win prizes, money, and trips to Las Vegas, including your hotel stay, meals, and spending money!
Please check it out, and do some research online...try the search engines and go to trusted sites.
Who knows?  You might be surprised soon with a great trip and wonderful memories!

I miss you Vegas!

I was diagnosed with APL (a rare form of Leukemia) February 2013.  Unfortunately, this has pushed back our next trip to Las Vegas.  I can't wait to be better so we can go back!
Until then, I will still be trying to post some happy moments, news, and my favorite places/games.
